How many IT organizations are outsourcing a particular functions and how much work are they actually outsourcing? Is the trend up or down? And what is the risk that costs will exceed projections?
To answer these and other questions, Computer Economics each year publishes its "IT Outsourcing Statistics" report, based on our annual survey of more than 200 IT organizations in the U.S. and Canada.
This publication provides an analysis of outsourcing trends for 11 IT functions.
Part I provides an overview. It ranks each IT function by the percentage of organizations that outsource the function (frequency), the average percentage of work outsourced (level), the change in level of outsourcing over the past year (trend), and the ability of organizations to accurately predict the cost of outsourcing (cost experience). In addition, the overview reports on the percentage of the IT budget that organizations typically spend on outsourcing.
Part II examines outsourcing activity for each IT function in more detail. We report on the frequency, level, trend, and cost experience by organization size, comparing outsourcing activity of large organizations with that of small and midsize organizations.
Part III examines offshore outsourcing trends. We report the percentage of outsourcing customers using offshore provides, the average percentage of outsourced work sent offshore, the percentage of outsourcing customers using offfshore providers for each IT function, and the change in the level of offshore outsourcing by IT function.
